The expression “a royal priesthood,” has been interpreted in many different ways. The text in Peter reads: “But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light” (1 Peter 2:9 ESV). Verse 10 says we are the people of God who have received his great mercy. Verse 5 says we are a spiritual house and a holy priesthood.
