Thoughts? 2014 30hp Mercury 4 stroke Starting Problem I have a 2014 30hp Mercury 4 stroke that has been setting for approx 1 year, the gas was not drained. Today noticed that with engine going 3/4 or full throttle, it loses power -- it recovered when I back off on the throttle. 2.2 hp 3 hp 3.3 hp 3.5 hp 3.6 hp 3.9 hp 4 hp 4.5 hp 5 hp 6 hp 7.5 hp 8 hp 9.8 hp 9.9 hp 10 hp 15 hp 20 hp 25 hp 30 hp 40 hp 45 hp 50 hp 55 hp 60 hp 65 hp 75 hp 80 hp 90 hp 100 hp 105 hp 115 hp 125 hp 135 hp 140 hp 150 hp 175 hp 200 hp 225 hp 250 hp 275 hp 300 hp The only way to get it started is take gas l I have a Mercury 8hp 4 stroke that is about 6 yrs old that doesn't like to keep running.

It ran rough at both low and high idle and would not stay running. Troubleshoot the ignition by using a spark detector.

Post Cancel. Yesterday it first ran 15 minutes no problem. I have a 20 hp 4 stroke Mercury 2010 outboard that had gas in it overwinter. I am hoping for something simple like dirty fuel filter or perhaps the gray rubber fuel line with black bulb for priming.. It's Belgian made, two cylinder, serial # 9321742, although Mercury advised that I'd need to put a zero before the serial number (so, 09321742). This is not a question, more of a statement of my own experience with my Merc 115 efi 4-stroke. when we pulled the drain plug for the engine oil about 2 cups of water gushed out.
I cleaned the tank out, replaced fuel line from tank to motor, replaced gas, replaced fuel filter and took off e carb and cleaned it out. They do not need to be made specifically to detect the spark in a 25 HP Mercury boat motor. We love our boat and for the first 20 hours no problem.
