Some are minor or college-level preparatory seminaries. Enrollment growth has been faster than the diocese had anticipated, from eight students in its first year to 26 this academic year. Sacred Heart is a regional seminary: in 2016–2017, 107 seminarians, representing eleven dioceses and two religious orders were enrolled in classes, along with 426 lay students (full and part-time). The Class of 2020 is the largest graduating class in the college seminary’s four-year history. Located just north of Chicago, it is the largest Catholic seminary in the United States and home to over 200 seminarians from 34 dioceses across the country and around the world.
